Hello everyone! I missed writing these so much – life is just so boring without Doctor Who on every weekend. Christmas was also rather boring at night without a special; it sort of became a tradition for me to sit down and watch Doctor Who every Christmas night – regardless of who was still over my house.

I think the year that Eleven regenerated into Twelve I literally went into my room by myself with guests still here to watch the episode. And last year I turned it into pretty much a whole event.

But we’re not talking about past specials. Oh no, we’re talking about this year’s special – and how the villain that Whovians everywhere have been waiting for finally made its return.

Before proceeding, read my spoiler warning here and proceed with caution.

Yes folks, I’m talking about the Daleks. Well, just one Dalek in this episode. There’s backstory with how this one different Dalek got down to Earth, which I will leave for you to discover.

This Dalek just happens to not have its casing on it, so it is extremely weak but it is still very much a Dalek in every way.

Naturally, as soon as the Doctor discovers that this squidy looking alien thing may be a Dalek, she freaks out, like every other regeneration has. You’ve beat them before, Doctor. You can continue to do so.

Anyway, this Dalek that was literally dug up is the first one to come to Earth and takes over a poor innocent woman but attaching itself to her back (grossest backpack ever) and making her do it’s bidding – like getting its weapon out of the archive and building it a makeshift casing.

So besides the Dalek, Ryan’s dad comes into the picture. The Dalek is discovered in Sheffield where Team TARDIS lives, and Ryan’s dad shows up and Graham slams the door in his face. And then he comes in anyway and the Doctor shades him a lot during the episode.

Switch to me getting quote tweeted by Doctor Who’s BBC America account about the shading.

Okay, pretty right? At least to me.

Ryan and his dad have a long conversation about their relationship and their history and it’s very emotional for the both of them, so I’ll leave that out and you can watch it yourself.

So the Doctor comes face-to-face in the last third of the episode with the Dalek. The Dalek has no clue who the hell she is and after the Dalek scans her and sees her hearts, she says that she’s the Doctor and then the Dalek opens fire on her.

Surprise, surprise.

Eventually since the Dalek is in his own made casing, it’s off of the poor woman that it stuck to and then the Doctor and friends destroy the casing and it gets stuck to Ryan’s dad.

Imagine how that goes. I’m gonna tell you anyway.

Ryan gets emotional that it’s attached to his dad and while they figure out a way to get rid of the Dalek, it almost makes Ryan’s dad go away too, but Ryan saves his dad and everything is all happy go lucky again.

One thing I saw someone tweet about was how this season was all about family and establishing friendships and I think that’s so true. I don’t know if that was the intention or not, but it was clear that was how it was shown to us.

Now we’re definitely done for the season with no new episodes until I believe the end of the year or even next year. I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait that long for more of the Doctor, but I’ll find something to pass the time.

  1. Ummm…I do not mean to be rude or anything, but you might consider changing the name on this series.

Let’s just say “WHOREVIEW” does not necessarily spell “Who-Review” 😮

    1. No worries! Yeah, I’m going to do that soon. My brain was not thinking in those moments… clearly. Just gonna add a space and all will be well. I hope.
