Hello everyone and welcome to something new I think I’m going to do: Let’s Ramble. It’s going to be where I write about whatever the hell I want and see what happens. Will it be personal life, gaming, Star Wars, all of these, or none of these? We’ll both find out.

I have a lot of opinions and people may or may not agree with them. I feel like sometimes I can’t have open conversations but since I need to or else I will explode – this is my way of doing that.

On the agenda for today: Black Ariel, trying to gain an audience, and more. But definitely those two subjects at the least.

Black Ariel

Because for some reason, a fictional being can’t be black. I understand wanting her to look like the cartoon – believe me, I do. The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite Disney films and I am looking forward to seeing her come to life – regardless of the color of her damn skin.

Some of the best arguments I’ve seen towards this are “mermaids can’t be black” or “black people don’t have red hair!!” which are post actually ridiculous. First of all – MERMAIDS ARE NOT REAL, therefore they can be black, white, tan, blue, purple, etc. IT DOESN’T MATTER. Second, nobody has fire truck red hair naturally. Sorry to burst your bubble on that one, racists.

Maybe it’s because I am fortunate enough to not be a pea-brained close-minded person, but I do not understand what the HELL the problem is with Ariel being black. Isn’t that what we’ve been trying to do to begin with? More diversity in Hollywood? We’re getting what we want (slowly) so what the fuck is everyone’s problem??

I’ve seen people be like “i’m all for diversity but no” – if you’re saying that then you are not all for diversity. Yes, I have seen people say things like that in comments of articles. People who very well claim to want a more diverse Hollywood saying that the casting isn’t right.

Another one I’ve seen is people saying they can’t make Ariel black because she’s already an existing white character. This one I understand – don’t agree with it, but understand. Again, this goes back to the wanting more diversity in Hollywood but complaining when we get it.

I for one, and PUMPED to see what Halle Bailey does with the role. I’m sure she was picked for a reason and I can’t wait to see the movie.

And for people saying “She’s not the right one, ZENDAYA should have been cast!!” – you are still part of the problem. Let someone else besides Zendaya shine god dammit.

Gaining an Audience

The thing that has been literally on my mind lately nonstop. Because aparently I suck at trying to do this. I know it’s supposed to be difficult and it is not easy – but god dammit I wish there was a step-by-step how to on how to do it.

I’ve been doing this for a while now and yet I am barely breaking 100. I am stuck at 97 (for now pls help me I am desperate) and it has taken me a very long time to even get there when other people seem to get there quicker.

I share my work, I interact with others. The fuck am I doing wrong?!?

And I know I said in a previous post that I will stop comparing myself to other and that I need to stop doing that but that’s been bull shit so far. Of course I’m going to compare myself to others because there are others out there who either started earlier than I that are doing better than me or just others out there that I aspire to be.

It’s human nature to compare ourselves to other. We’re going to do it even if we don’t mean to do it, so I’m just going to accept the fact that it is going to happen and keep on chugging along.

I guess.

  1. I totally understand where you’re coming from. Ariel has been a part of my world since I was a little girl and I even had the honor of meeting the one and only Jodi Benson last year, I honestly I have no issues with a new Ariel being black for the exact same reasons you just mentioned. I can’t understand why people find this bad. It’s a remake, things always change in remakes. And ever wondered that black people often don’t get the same opportunities in Hollywood as white people do? This ought to be a step in the right direction. Plus Ariel was remembered not for her looks but for her VOICE, so I think the casting decision was made because Halle Bailey can actually sing. I listened to a snippet of her work and she’s rather good, so I’m going to listen to one of her songs in full before I write my own thoughts.

At least you’re close to 100 because I’m not. Back when I wrote all my stuff on Blogger before moving here, I had even LESS views and comments unless I got lucky or shared it in some Facebook group that appealed to the article’s subject. Other than that I would just only get views and comments from spammers and business promoters and it frustrated me that I wasn’t getting any attention from genuine readers so I too wondered for a long time what I was doing wrong. That’s why moving my blog here and now I’m suddenly getting that is miraculous and I would also like to get my blog to grow because you never know, I could actually make money with this.

I think one problem is the mainstream would rather watch videos than read a blog post unfortunately.

    1. I agree on your last statement. I have loads of friends who watch my Youtube videos but don’t even blink at my blog. It is easier to watch a video than it is to read cause you can put it on in the background and do something else.

I hate that it sounds bratty complaining about the followers thing (even now that i’ve surpassed it), but it gets frustrating when you’re pouring heart and soul into stuff that doesn’t seem to get noticed and then other people come along and somehow they’re doing everything right even though it seems to be the same thing that you’re doing. The internet is a weird place man.
